AIRASIA X SELECTS ROLLS-ROYCE TRENT 700 PACKAGE WORTH $1.3 BILLION TO LAUNCH
A330 LONG-HAUL START-UP OPERATION AirAsia X, the long-haul low cost start-up airline, has selected the Trent 700to power its new fleet of 15 Airbus A330-300s. The deal, worth over $1 billionat list prices, also includes a TotalCare long term service agreement.Tony Fernandes, Chief Executive Officer of AirAsia, said: "The Trent 700 is thebest engine choice for us on a number of levels. It will give us the widestchoice of routes and the greatest revenue-earning opportunities. For a low-costoperation such as ours, supporting the engine with TotalCare also gives us theability to have a predictable cost base which is crucial for us to becompetitive. Kuala Lumpur-based AirAsia X (operated by AirAsia subsidiary Fly Asia Express) is set to formally launch medium and long haul operations in September 2008.
The Trent 700 is the market leader on the A330 with a 49 per cent share of orders and 42 customers and operators. Of the A330s that have been ordered by airlines in Asia, 61 per cent have selected the Trent 700.
It is the most environmentally friendly engine on the A330, being the quietestand cleanest available for this aircraft, with the greatest margin to CAEP

1. The Trent 700 is the only engine on the A330 that has been specifically
designed for the aircraft, resulting in better performance, reliability and
maintenance costs.
2. The Trent 700 was the first engine in the Trent family to enter service, in
March 1995, and is the most powerful engine for the A330, with a maximum
in-service thrust of 72,000lb.
3. With over 7.2 million engine hours on the A330 the Trent 700 is the most
experienced engine on the aircraft.
4. Rolls-Royce is working hard to improve the environmental impact of its
products. Each year Rolls-Royce, in collaboration with its partners,
invests around ‚£700 million on research and development, two thirds of
which has the objective of reducing the environmental impact of its
products. This technology investment is primarily aimed at reducing noise
and emissions.
5. TotalCare agreements, tailored for individual operators, offer a range of
services extending to aspects of support such as latest predictive
maintenance, asset and logistics management, as well as repair and
overhaul. TotalCare offers the opportunity to remove uncertainties from
engine management and provides airlines with greater financial confidence
from managing predictable costs.
6. Rolls-Royce has a strong and long-standing presence in Malaysia. The
company has been involved in the development of Malaysia's civil and military aviation sectors for over 50 years and today is represented in Malaysia in all the four main business sectors. Today there are four offices in Malaysia providing various types of support for Rolls-Royce customers headed by a regional office.
7. Recognition of the value and importance of technology underpins the Group's
commitment to Malaysia's technological future, most recently joining with
Metalysis Limited to launch Malaysia's first tantalum processing and
research and development facility
8. Rolls-Royce provides technology transfer and support for educational
initiatives through programmes such as the Institut Teknologi Petroleum
PETRONAS (INSTEP) and participation in the British Malaysia Institute,
which produces highly educated engineers in the electronics and ITC sector.
It also sponsors the Chevening MBA programme and the British Council's British Overseas Industrial Placement (BOND) scheme. In addition, Rolls-Royce provides community based support through various charitable donations including membership of the Kiwanis Foundation.
