Quartics and DDD go 'beyond 3d' at CES
Quartics is DDD's first TriDef 3D Implementation Partner Licensee
Las Vegas, Nevada, January 7, 2010 -In response to the surge in demand for 3D video processing solutions in the emerging 3D consumer market, Quartics Inc. (Quartics) and DDD Group plc (LSE: DDD) today announced an agreement that enables the conversion of 2D video content into a rich 3D viewing experience. This is made possible using the Quartics Qvu™ System On Chip (SoC) Video Processor in conjunction with DDD's TriDef® 3D technologies.
The blockbuster movie "Avatar," which has earned more than $1 billion internationally is fueling a rapidly growing demand for the same 3D experience in consumer electronics devices. Quartics and DDD are leading this effort and collaborating to bring the most compelling and cost effective 3D technology yet to HD TVs, IPSTBs, and Netbooks by optimizing the Qvu™ Video Processor with DDD's TriDef® 3D software technology.
The combined Qvu/TriDef 3D solution is compatible with virtually any 3D display technology including passive polarized and active shutter glasses. It supports the decoding of a wide variety of original 3D content formats including those used in Blu-ray and broadcast 3D applications. Devices equipped with the Qvu 3D features can automatically convert any existing 2D HD content to 3D from Blu-Ray, social media sites, games consoles and more.
Already adopted by some of the world's largest OEMs, the Qvu SoC product line is making its worldwide debut at CES 2010 in the Quartics suite at the Wynn Hotel in Las Vegas between January 7th and January 10th 2010. By appointment, executives from Quartics will demonstrate how Qvu accelerates and significantly improves the quality of all resolutions, formats, and sources of video content, from SD to HD in both 2D and 3D. Those interested in experiencing this 3D solution at Quartics' private meeting suite at the Wynn Hotel during CES should contact Dan Davis at Quartics at (949) 468-2224 or [email protected].
"Embedding DDD's market-leading TriDef solution in the Quartics Qvu Video Processor is the next step in delivering high quality, cost effective 3D content solutions for the OEM customers now seeking to introduce next generation 3D products," said Chris Yewdall, chief executive of DDD. "The performance, functionality and low power consumption of the Quartics Qvu bring a vastly improved 2D and 3D experience to a wide variety of consumer platforms including PCs and television. As a member of DDD's Implementation Partner licensing program, Quartics is licensed to supply the 3D Qvu chip to OEMs and ODMs from whom DDD receives royalty income directly."
"Our combined solution offers the first real opportunity for OEMs and ODMs to bring 3D to HD TVs and Netbooks at consumer price points," said Sherjil Ahmed, President and founder of Quartics. "And, by taking advantage of Qvu's programmable nature, customers can extend the benefits of a single, common platform without having to change the underlying hardware. Our efforts with DDD are the first step in the strategic direction of bringing the 3D experience to consumer applications."
