Gemfields Plc ("Gemfields" or "the Company", Ticker "GEM") received notification on 18 March 2011, that on the same day, Mr Sean Gilbertson, Director of the Company, purchased a total of 200,000 of the Company's ordinary 1p shares at a price of £0.1688 each. This will represent the second purchase of shares by Mr Gilbertson. His total holding after the purchase is approximately 0.09% of the total issued shares of Gemfields.

Mr Ian Harebottle, Chief Executive Officer of the Company, purchased a total of 200,000 of the Company's ordinary 1p shares at a price of £0.1688 each. This will represent the first purchase of shares by Mr Harebottle. His total holding after the purchase is approximately 0.06% of the total issued shares of Gemfields.

Mr Graham Mascall, Chairman of the Company, purchased a total of 150,000 of the Company's ordinary 1p shares at a price of £0.1688 each. This will represent the first purchase of shares by Mr Mascall. His total holding after the purchase is approximately 0.05% of the total issued shares of Gemfields.

Mr Devidas Shetty, Chief Financial Officer of the Company, purchased a total of 100,000 of the Company's ordinary 1p shares at a price of £0.1688 each. This will represent the first purchase of shares by Mr Shetty. His total holding after the purchase is approximately 0.03% of the total issued shares of Gemfields.
