Telit Wireless Solutions, Inc., the US-based m2m mobile technologyarm of Telit Communications (LSE:TCM), today announced that PunchTelematix, a leading supplier of telematics applications, has selectedTelit's GM862-Quad module for implementation in Punch Telematix'sCarBox automotive solution. £ Telit's module will play an integral role in transmission of datafor the CarBox system, which tracks the movements of all fleetvehicles and goods, compiles comprehensive reports, and transmitsbusiness-relevant data, including information on the position andspeed of a vehicle, as well as any start or stop events. £ "The GM862 gives the CarBox an extremely powerful GSM/GPRS modulewhich completely satisfies our high demands in terms of functionalrange and quality," said Mark van Quickelberghe, Director of ProductManagement at Punch Telematix. £ CarBox can easily be built into any vehicle, giving it advancedmobile telematics functions such as a fast-track GPS receiver forpositioning, and a GSM/GPRS modem for wireless connectivity. Connectedto the ignition, this intelligent box transmits data to the monitoringbase, keeping it constantly informed on the vehicle's movements. Thisdevice also facilitates mileage monitoring, providing the back officewith valuable information about how far the vehicles have been driven, allowing for instant cost assignments and service scheduling, whichprove very important since regular service and maintenance increase avehicle's service life and resale value. To satisfy the latestsecurity requirements, the CarBox is also equipped with automotivesensors that can detect when a car is involved in an accident or isbeing towed. £ Punch Telematix originally used the GM862-PCS for the company'sfleet management needs, starting a collaboration with Telit that isnow into its third year. The company now uses the latest generation ofquad-band-enabled Telit modules, the GM862-Quad. Measuring only 44 x44 x 6.7 mm and weighing just 23 grams, this extremelytemperature-resistant module (-30 degree C to +80 degree C) has provento be very stable. Supporting frequency bands ranging from 824 MHz to1900 MHz, the module can be used anywhere GSM is available. £ There are at least ten times more machines, equipment, vehicles, and robots than there are humans in the world, creating a criticalneed to transfer information efficiently between machines or frommachines to humans.
