PUBLICATION OF PRE-LISTING STATEMENT

Further to the announcement made on 8 August 2008, British American Tobacco announces that the pre-listing statement (the "Pre-Listing Statement") and abridged pre-listing statements in both English and Afrikaans (the "Abridged Pre-Listing Statements") in connection with listing of the Company's ordinary shares on the JSE Limited, are being published today.
Copies of the Pre-Listing Statement will be available for inspection at:
British American Tobacco's registered office, Globe House, 4 Temple Place, London, WC2R 2PG, United Kingdom;
British American Tobacco's representative office in South Africa, 34 Alexander Street, Stellenbosch, 7600, South Africa;
J.P. Morgan Equities Limited, 1 Fricker Road, Illovo, 2196, South Africa;
UBS South Africa (Proprietary) Limited, 64 Wierda Road East, Wierda Valley, 2196, South Africa; and
Werksmans Incorporated, 155 5th Street, Sandown, Sandton, 2196, South Africa,
during usual business hours on any weekday (Saturdays and public holidays excepted) for a period from today until Friday, 28 November 2008.
The Pre-Listing Statement and the Abridged Pre-Listing Statements will also be available for download from the Company's website www.bat.com/jse
The Group expects the listing to take place on or around 28 October 2008.
