Publication of Environmental & Social Impact Assessment Scoping Study
Zinnwald Lithium plc, the European-focused lithium company developing the integrated Zinnwald Lithium Project (the "Project") in Germany, is pleased to announce the publication of its Environmental and Social Impact Assessment ("ESIA") Scoping Study, Stakeholder Engagement Plan, Land Access, Acquisition and Compensation Framework, and Grievance Mechanism (together the "ESIA Scoping Documents"). These represent another key milestone in the Project's permitting pathway and underscores the Company's commitment to sustainable development in line with international best practice.
Anton du Plessis, CEO of Zinnwald Lithium, commented: "Publishing our ESIA Scoping Documents marks an important step for the Zinnwald Project. It defines the framework for upcoming environmental and social studies, clarifies the permitting pathway, and further de-risks development. We are committed to securing our social license to operate and these documents support our extensive ongoing engagement programme with the local community and stakeholders. Together, these efforts reflect our commitment to responsible development and support Europe's energy transition and industrial resilience."
DETAILS
The Project, which will be permitted under German Mining Law through an integrated procedure managed by the Saxony Mining Authority ("SOBA"), is undertaking an ESIA that goes beyond the national permitting requirements in order to meet the standards of International Financing Institutions, including the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development's Environmental and Social Requirements, the European Investment Bank's Environmental and Social Standards, Equator Principle 4 and related guidance. The ESIA Scoping Documents have been produced in conjunction with the German office of ERM, one of the largest global sustainability consultancies.
The ESIA Scoping Report is a key milestone in the Project's development, providing an initial evaluation of the potential environmental and social impacts of the proposed mining operation. It outlines the key areas that will be assessed in the full ESIA Report, which is expected to be released for public comment in 2027.
The Project has today published the ESIA Scoping Documents in German on its community website (https://lithium-im-erzgebirge.de) as well as placing the documents on display at the various Town Halls in the Altenberg Municipality. The Project and its consultants are hosting a public information and dialogue event on 13 November 2025 to enable direct community participation. This formally starts a consultation period, which runs until at least 7 December 2025, enabling local communities, regional authorities, and other stakeholders to review the ESIA scoping findings, provide feedback, and engage directly with the Company on the proposed development.
Following the close of the consultation period, the Company will integrate stakeholder feedback and any comments from regulatory authorities into the revised Terms of Reference for the final ESIA Scoping Report.
The ESIA Scoping Documents in English have also been published on the Company's website (www.zinnwaldlithium.com) to further encourage feedback from wider stakeholders. Zinnwald will continue to provide updates as the permitting and ESIA processes progress.
