Anglo American PLC19 February 2008 News Release 19 February 2008 Proposed election of director Anglo American plc ("Anglo American") announces that the election of Sir CK Chowas an independent non-executive director will be proposed at the AGM on 15 April2008. Sir Mark Moody-Stuart, Chairman of Anglo American, said: "I am delighted thatSir CK has agreed to join the board where his broad international businessexperience will be of great value to us." Sir CK said: "I was honoured to be asked to join the board of Anglo American andlook forward to contributing to the continued success of a great company." Biography Sir CK (56) is currently CEO of MTR Corporation, a position he has held sinceDecember 2003. He was formerly CEO of Brambles Industries and GKN. Prior tojoining GKN he worked for the BOC Group for 20 years, becoming CEO of its GasesDivision and joining its board in 1993. Sir CK is a chartered engineer and holdsBachelor of Science and Master of Science degrees in Chemical Engineering fromthe Universities of Wisconsin and California respectively. Sir CK was knightedin 2000 for his contribution to industry. Sir CK is currently a member of the Hong Kong Tourist Board and the Council ofthe Chinese University of Hong Kong. He is also a member of the generalcommittee of the Hong Kong General Chamber of Commerce and a member of theSteering Committee of the Shenzen Municipal Committee of the Chinese PoliticalConsultative Conference. He is a non-executive director of Standard Charteredplc and the non-executive chairman of Standard Chartered Bank (Hong Kong)Limited.
