Princess partnership 3i invests in AP Bags
The Princess partnership 3i Eurofund V has acquired a 49% stake, worth EUR 118 million, in the handbags and accessories division of Antichi Pellettieri S.p.A., the Italian branded leather accessories group. The involvement and funding provided by 3i will bring together several brands in a new entity, AP Bags, which will be the holding company of four handbags and accessories brands: Francesco Biasia, Braccialini, Coccinelle and Mandarina Duck. 3i will provide business development support to assist with the further internationalization of the business, the penetration of new markets, particularly China and India, location sourcing and selection, advertising and promotional management and the development of retail operations.
Dr. Stephan Schäli, Head Private Alternative Investment Strategies at Princess' investment advisor Partners Group, comments: "In line with the general trend in the industry, a shift of focus away from large-cap transactions toward the mid and lower end of the market can be observed within the Princess portfolio. 3i's investment in AP Bags is a prime example of such a mid market deal, and we are confident about the development of the company. In particular the extensive network of strategic and industrial partners that 3i has developed in the emerging markets should prove beneficial to the expansion of AP Bags."
