Scottish & Southern Energy PLC29 September 2006 DETAILS OF PRICES FOR ELECTRICITY AND GAS IN 2007 Further to its announcement on 21 September, SSE has confirmed that the pricerises which it has said it will be introducing in 2007 for domestic electricityand gas will be 9.4% (average) and 12.2% respectively. These price rises will take effect on 1 January 2007, and even after theirimplementation, SSE's prices for gas and for gas and electricity combined willremain the lowest in the UK.* Alistair Phillips-Davies, Energy Supply Director of SSE, said: "As we said last week, it is well-known that we have made fewer price increasesthan all the other major energy suppliers over the past three years and that wehave passed on to our customers far less than the full extent of the increase inwholesale energy prices experienced in that period. The consequences of threeyears of high wholesale energy prices are, however, still being felt. "Even after these latest increases take effect, our gas prices and 'dual fuel'prices will still be the lowest in the country. If, as everyone hopes, falls inwholesale energy prices continue and are sustained, we will move as quickly aswe can to reverse the price rises of recent years. "In the meantime, we will continue our work on fuel poverty and energyefficiency to make sure that we play our part in meeting the needs of vulnerablecustomers." *Based on the average Standard Quarterly price across all areas of GreatBritain. On this basis it is calculated that: SSE's new gas price from January2007 will be £606 per annum, compared with the £707 currently charged by BritishGas; SSE's new price for gas and electricity combined ('dual fuel') from January2007 will be £962 per annum, compared with the £1,120 currently charged byBritish Gas. This is based on annual consumption of 20,500kWh of gas and3,300kWh of electricity. Prices include VAT.
