Appian Technology PLC27 September 2007 Appian Technology plc - Ticker: APN / Index: AIM/ Sector: Electronic 27 September 2007 Appian Technology plc ("Appian" or the "Company") Pre-Close Trading Update Appian Technology plc, the AIM-traded provider of Automatic Number PlateRecognition Systems ("ANPR") and traffic management products and solutions, ispleased to provide a pre-close trading update for the year ending 30 September2007. Trading Significant progress has been made during the year in product and marketdevelopment, which is outlined below, and the Company maintains a strongpipeline of new business prospects. However, the timing of the receipt of anumber of substantial orders, which were expected to be won in the second halfof the year, has slipped. Accordingly, trading in the year ending 30 September2007 will be below market expectations. These potential orders remain live andthere are a number of significant orders that the Company believes it is closeto receiving, which will have a major impact on the figures going forward. TheCompany will update the market on trading and outlook at the time of theCompany's preliminary results for the year ending 30 September in January 2008. Product Development Appian continues to develop innovative new products and to upgrade and customisethe features and capabilities of its key Talon ANPR engine. The Company remainsat the forefront of its industry and has recently launched three new ANPR cameraproducts: • Cobra - a high specification infra red and colour ANPR camera launched in January 2007. This has been very well received by the market. Cobra incorporates up to date technology and outperforms all competing ANPR cameras. • Viper - a high performance colour ANPR camera for mobile systems launched in early summer 2007. • Stinger - an intelligent ANPR camera with on-board image processing and communications. Market Development The interest for ANPR is rapidly spreading globally as is the potential range ofuses for the technology in surveillance, enforcement and traffic management. Inline with this, Appian has invested significantly in market development,particularly overseas. During the year, it participated in over 30 trials andcertification tests in the UK and internationally, which is vital for the futuregrowth and development of its business. The Company has strengthened its representation in the American markets,resulting in an increasing number of sales being made from Canada to SouthAmerica. These initial sales are by their nature small and aimed at proving thetechnology, but the Board believes that they will lead to larger follow-onsales, which are already beginning to crystallise. In the US, in excess of 35police departments now use Appian's technology and this number is expected toincrease and accelerate in future years. The Company is finalising a number ofOEM agreements to incorporate its technology into third party products. Market development has also been focused on the Middle East and Europe and thesemarkets show considerable promise. Future Prospects The interest in Appian's products is at an all time high.
