Pre-close trading statement
Trading in line with directors' expectations
Superglass Holdings PLC, the UK's leading independent manufacturer of environmental insulation products today issues its pre-close trading statement for the year ended 31 August 2010.
Production Capability
We announced on 28 June that Superglass had experienced a failure of one of the furnaces at its Stirling plant. The Board is pleased to report that repairs have been completed and the plant is again fully operational. These repairs should improve the operational performance of the furnace and will extend its working life, deferring a planned rebuild of the unit (at an estimated capital cost of between £1.5m and £2.0m) previously scheduled for 2011 by at least 18 months. Investigations have revealed a fault in the floor of the failed furnace and, in order to pre-empt any similar problem with our second furnace, the Board proposes to take this furnace out of production for approximately 6 weeks over the Christmas period for repairs and enhancements. The planned expenditure on the second furnace of approximately £0.3m is within our normal capital expenditure budgets and the enhancements will be carried out on a pre-planned basis to ensure there is no disruption to supplies.
Trading
Trading in recent weeks has been broadly in line with directors' expectations and the Board expects Superglass to meet market expectations for the year ended 31 August 2010.
Confirmation of the Statutory Instrument to extend the CERT scheme to 2012 is welcome news and we are beginning to see encouraging signs of improving demand, following a sharp slow-down towards the end of the 2010 financial year. We anticipate that this will be a strong driver of additional demand, commencing from early 2011 onwards.
The Company expects to release preliminary results for the year ended 31 August 2010 on Wednesday, 24 November 2010.
