The Company has received strong support from the local community following public events held in the villages surrounding the proposed mine location and nearby Whitby. Six public exhibitions have been held as part of the pre-application public consultation process for the onshore mining planning application which is to be submitted to the North York Moors National Park Planning Authority.
The public exhibition process concludes on Friday, 28 September 2012 but has so far attracted over 800 visitors. The following table summarises the nature of feedback that has been received to date via consultation feedback forms.

In addition to this strong support from the community, the consultation on the plans has also attracted wider support from important business and tourism groups in the region. The York, North Yorkshire and East Riding Local Enterprise Partnership and the Leeds, York & North Yorkshire Chamber of Commerce have expressed strong support for the proposals and the economic growth that the York Potash Project can bring to the wider region.
The regional tourism body, Welcome to Yorkshire, has also confirmed its support for the mine which it believes would not only be beneficial for the whole area but could itself become a tourist attraction. Welcome to Yorkshire has vowed to work with the Company to look at how the potential of the proposed visitor centre could be maximised.
Chris Fraser, Managing Director and CEO of Sirius said:
"The response so far has been very positive and we are very encouraged that so many people from the local community have taken the time to engage with our team and to support the York Potash Project. The feedback we have received will help refine and improve the planning application that we are working to submit before the end of the year."
