Police Adopt New Technology

24th May 2006 10:18

Servocell Group PLC24 May 2006 Servocell Group plc ("Servocell") C.A.S.C. Ltd and Servocell Collaborate for New 'Intelligent' Cabinet Lock Staffordshire Police adopts traceable locking solution Servocell is pleased to announce that its lower power Active Latch technology, which is incorporated into a new intelligent cabinet locking solution, made byC.a.s.C Ltd, a leading UK intelligent locking has been sold to StaffordshirePolice. This new intelligent cabinet locking solution, which is able to keep track ofretained items actively manages and control users' access and records thedetails of the individuals gaining entry to each locker. The new solutionincorporates Servocell's low-powered Active Latch technology to ensure thefail-safe functionality of the locks. The Staffordshire Police Force (UK) is the first customer of C.a.s.C's"Intelli-Store" solution offering a vital new secure storage option for avariety of markets including pharmaceutical, military, healthcare and aerospace, along with C.a.s.C's other known controlled access solutions. This contract follows a recent Home Office directive that each UK police forcewould be advised to have 'total traceability' of its Airwave Radios (policeradios) With all police mobile communications being linked over a privatenetwork at a national level, the risks associated to the force's security when aradio is lost is immense. In the event of one being misplaced, it must then bedisabled immediately at some considerable cost. In response to the directive, Staffordshire Police successfully trialedC.a.s.C's new solution for the access control of its Airwave Radios which areavailable to its officers and Special Constables. All the Special Constableswere involved in the trial, which lasted from March 2005 to March 2006. The newlocking solution for the individual lockers was developed around a softwaresystem which links access control details to officers' warrant cards - based onbar code identity - to each radio phone which is similarly identified. The pilot project with the Airwave Radio cabinets was such a success thatStaffordshire Police is now working with C.a.s.C Ltd to provide the totaltraceability cabinet lock solution for its fleet management. In this scenariothe system would only grant users access to keys for cars which they arequalified to drive and would record the name, date and time each time keys wereremoved and returned. Other possible applications of the system for the policeforce include the secure storage of evidence, confiscated drugs, CCTV andinterview tapes. Richard Croft at C.a.s.C. Ltd said: "We are highly committed to developing the best solutions for our customers andpartnering with Servocell has enabled us to provide an extremely low-powered,secure and fail-safe system. Due to their versatile nature and uniquetraceability function, the cabinet locks will be vital to any industry whereaccess to items and substances must be closely monitored and controlled." Simon Powell at Servocell said: "I am delighted by this contract win which is testimony to the strength of ourActive Latch solution, which I believe increasingly will become an integralcomponent of smart lock technology" Enquiries: Servocell Group plc Simon Powell, CEO 01279 621 500 Steven Weaver, CFOBell Lawrie Jon Fitzpatrick 0141 221 7733Biddicks Shane Dolan 020 7448 1000 Note to editors: About ServocellServocell (www.servocell.com) specialises in actuator mechanisms based on piezotechnology for security, access control and valve applications, allowing OEMs todevelop more commercially competitive products that are faster, smaller andlonger lasting.
