Fatal Accident at Marikana Platinum Mine 4 Shaft

Aquarius Platinum Limited ("Aquarius" or the "Company") deeply regrets to advise that a major fall of ground occurred at 18h28 on 6 July 2010 at Marikana 4 Shaft which has resulted in multiple fatalities.

It has been confirmed that 5 employees of the mining contractor, Murray and Roberts Cementation (MRC), have died. A sixth person has been hospitalised but is not in a life-threatening condition, whilst a seventh sustained minor injuries. A recovery operation is underway.

The investigation into the cause of the accident will commence this afternoon. Management is in close communication with the leaders of employee associations and unions as well as the Department of Mineral Resources. Operations at 4 Shaft have been suspended.
