Normal Smelting Operations Resume
Further to the announcement dated 30 June 2008, Lonmin confirms that it has now resumed normal smelting operations, with the Number One furnace tapping matte on 5 July 2008.
The source of the power down was a small water leak detected in one of the copper cooling waffles. The copper waffle in which the leak was detected has been replaced and a full investigation into the cause of the leak is underway.
Our estimate of the impact on production and sales of the power down is the deferral of between 5,000 and 10,000 ounces of Platinum from the 2008 financial year into the 2009 financial year.
