New Quality Standard: setting a high bar for efficacy, innovation,
safety and compliance
Plant Impact plc (AIM: PIM), which leads research and development in crop enhancement technology to create products that growers can rely on to increase the yield and quality of their crops, is pleased to announce the launch of the Pi Quality Standard. A first for our fast developing industry sector; this standard sets demanding and transparent requirements in product efficacy, innovation, safety and compliance.
The ground-breaking Pi Quality Standard is designed to help growers identify high quality products in a new sector that is awash with confusing claims, but very little data. The standard will only be awarded to Plant Impact products that have completed comprehensive multi-year and multi-location trial programmes providing independently proven, statistically significant and transparent data on efficacy. This, together with 14 other key quality factors concerning safety and compliance, align with and exceed current industry guidelines and legal requirements to create a set of demanding qualifying criteria.
Plant Impact is proud to announce that both Veritas®, our original soybean crop enhancement product offered to growers in partnership with Bayer CropScience, and Fortalis®, our second generation soybean product recently launched in the USA and Argentina, achieve this standard at launch.
Other Plant Impact products and our R&D pipeline projects are undergoing focused trial work to build the volume of data required for the standard, starting with those that can have the biggest impact on closing the yield gap.
We adhere to all relevant safety and compliance regulations for all of our products and are proud members of the European Biostimulants Industry Consortium (EBIC) and the US Biostimulant Coalition. These organisations aim to promote the role of biostimulants in agriculture and address developing regulatory issues. Alongside our compliance with the EBIC code of conduct, our new Quality Standard commits us to delivering more detail, including statistically significant levels of yield uplift, multi-year data and formulation stability for example.
John Brubaker, CEO of Plant Impact said:
"If crop enhancement technology and biostimulants more broadly are to make a global impact on the yield gap, we and our peers in this innovative industry sector must adopt transparent and robust practices and we are delighted that Plant Impact is setting the trend. Only then will we build trust among hard-working and savvy growers. The Pi Quality Standard marks our commitment to stepping forward as a strong voice for change, maintaining the highest scientific standards and helping growers identify reliable new crop enhancement technologies."
