Traction Technology PLC10 July 2007 Traction Technology Plc (AIM: TRAC) Launch of TRIBRID Power Pack Traction Technology Plc ("Traction" or "the Company"), a designer and delivererof environmentally friendly, low emission Series Diesel Electric Hybrid enginesystems, announces the launch of a new 'TRIBRID' product range for busoperators. TRIBRID is a power pack that has the ability to draw on threeseparate power sources for use in bus engines. When the TRIBRID Power Pack is in use, power is automatically managed betweenthe diesel power unit, conventional batteries or from Supercapacitors.Supercapacitors are very high value capacitors that can store much largeramounts of energy, to the point where they can act like batteries and propel thebus. They are capable of millions of charge and discharge cycles at highcurrents which make them highly suitable for hybrid vehicles. The TRIBRID, by blending these three sources of energy, optimises the efficiencyof the bus as it can vary the horse power, energy usage or battery capacity ofthe bus to suit all requirements. Traction's development bus, an Optare Solo fitted as a TRIBRID, began roadtesting on 4th July 2007, and will be demonstrated first at the CENEX event atLeeds on 20th July 2007, a UK Government initiative supported by the Departmentfor Business, Enterprise and Regulatory Reform (formerly the DTI). Traction Technology's Technical Director, Richard Cooke commented; "Supercapacitors, with an operational life possibly exceeding the life of thebus itself, will, we believe, address operators' concerns on hybrid batteryreplacement costs. We plan to satisfy most customers' requirements without theneed for storage batteries. When combined with our new Third GenerationSoftware, which includes advanced regenerative braking and the latest controlsystems, we believe we will have responded to all of the concerns related toreliable operation of Hybrid buses."
