Appointment of Board Chairman
Vietnam Infrastructure Limited (the "Company" or "VNI") (VNI.L), the first publicly traded fund to focus on investment into infrastructure assets in Vietnam, today a change to the composition of the Board, effective immediately.
The following change in composition of the Board was made following the Board meeting on 11 March 2011:
·; Mr. Don Lam retires as Chairman of the Company and remains on the Board as a non-executive Director. Mr. Lam is the Chief Executive Officer of VinaCapital Investment Management Ltd, the Company's investment manager.
·; Mr. Paul Cheng, an existing independent non-executive Director, is appointed as non-executive Chairman.
Mr. Cheng has been a non-executive Director of the Company since its establishment in June 2007. His appointment to Chairman follows a commitment by the Company's investment manager to ensure all funds under management have an independent chairman.
Mr. Cheng is an independent non-executive director of Esprit Holdings Limited and Kingboard Chemical Holdings Limited - both listed companies on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange. He is a member of the International Advisory Board of Abdul Latif Jameel Co. Ltd., one of the largest private companies in Saudi Arabia, and is an advisor to Steelcase Corporation in the U.S. He was formerly Chairman of The Link Management Ltd., which manages a portfolio of previously government-owned retail and car parking assets. Mr. Cheng has a B.A. degree from Lake Forest College (Illinois, U.S.A) and received his M.B.A. degree from the Wharton Graduate School of Business at the University of Pennsylvania.
Commenting, Don Lam, Director of the Company and Chief Executive Officer of the Company's investment manager, said: "I am pleased to relinquish my role as Chairman of the Company to Paul Cheng, who has been a valued member of the Board since the Company's establishment. The appointment of an independent Chairman reflects our commitment to corporate governance standards. Paul knows very well the challenges and opportunities the Company faces, and he will continue as Chairman to help VNI grow its operations and return value to shareholders."
