Motive Joins HbbTV Consortium
Aims to make Content Express™ technology standard in industry for hybrid devices
London 3 February 2014: Motive Television ("Motive" or the "Company") announces that it has joined the HbbTV Consortium with the objective of making its Content Express™ technology a component of the industry standard and to extend the efficient delivery of video-on-demand (VOD) content over the broadcast and broadband networks.
The HbbTV consortium was created by the major stakeholders (Broadcasters, Consumer Electronics, and Broadband providers) to standardize the delivery of services to hybrid devices including televisions and set-top boxes. The consortium's goal is solving the issue of compatibility among devices, services and applications and thereby raising the quality of Hybrid TV.
According to HbbTV, the standard is already deployed in various European countries including Austria, Czech Republic, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Poland, Spain, Switzerland and the Netherlands, and a large majority of all connected TV sets sold in Western Europe implements the HbbTV standard. There are currently more than 5 million active HbbTV receivers globally with the potential to reach over 110 million homes in those countries.
Future HbbTV deployments have also been announced in Europe, Australia, Malaysia and Vietnam. The HbbTV standard is rapidly gaining additional support globally including the Americas and Asia.
Leonard M Fertig, CEO of Motive commented, "HbbTV is rapidly becoming an industry standard for the reception of hybrid television (broadcast and Internet) and having Motive's technology included in this large population of screens is a valuable addition to the Company's growth."
