MORE REASONS TO CELEBRATE AT CONNAH'S QUAY

St. Modwen, the UK's leading regeneration specialist, has celebrated a significant milestone at its £15 million Quay Shopping Centre scheme in Connah's Quay, Flintshire.

The developer has reached practical completion on the 72,000 sq ft scheme, which includes a new 52,000 sq ft food store. The food store building has now been handed over to the scheme's main anchor tenant, Morrisons for a comprehensive internal fit-out before opening its doors in early November.

Over 300 new jobs are set to be created at the Ffordd Llanarth site, which has attracted lettings from a wide range of national retailers including Greggs, Bargain Booze, Just Go Travel, and Home Bargains. When completed, the six-acre scheme will feature twelve retail units, 325 car parking spaces, improved pedestrian links and a bus pick-up point.

Paul Batho, project director at St. Modwen, said: "The momentum has been really building at Connah's Quay over the past few months, with a number of new lettings secured and so it's very satisfying to see the scheme taking shape. We are looking forward to Morrisons opening its doors to the public and, alongside the other new tenants, achieving the vibrancy and activity that Connah's Quay deserves."

Flintshire county councillor Peter Macfarlane, said: "I wish to congratulate St. Modwen on transforming what was a derelict site into a magnificent retail centre. This is a major regeneration project and a vote of confidence in our community. I know that people are really pleased with the range of top quality retailers which the scheme has attracted and are excited about the opening."

Flintshire county councillor Eric Owen, commented: "This milestone is great news for the regeneration of Connah's Quay. The new shopping centre will make a big impact in the area, bringing with it new employment opportunities, more investment from the private sector and putting Connah's Quay back to where it belongs, at the top. I'm looking forward to seeing it open."

St. Modwen has a track record of delivering long-term regeneration projects in partnership with the UK's most successful supermarket operators and recent successes include attracting ASDA to both Widnes and Wythenshawe town centres. The company also has long term agreements with Morrisons at Skelmersdale, West Lancs and Sainsbury's at Project Jennifer in North Liverpool.

Demolition of the 1970s-style district centre which previously occupied the site was completed in August 2009.
