Press Release | 26 June 2012 |
Acta S.p.A.
("Acta" or "the Company")
Marketing and DistributionAgreement
Acta S.p.A. (AIM: ACTA), the clean energy products company, is pleased to announce that it has signed a Marketing and Distribution Agreement under which SEFCA Pty Ltd ("SEFCA") will promote, sell and supply the Company's electrolysers for hydrogen production and related products, in Australia and New Zealand. The immediate commercial objective of the parties is to integrate Acta's electrolysers into SEFCA's fuel cell back-up power systems and to distribute them to the major telecommunications operators in the territory.
The Board believes that the Australian market is distinctive for its high cost of hydrogen supply and the logistic difficulties of fuel distribution to remote locations. This makes the market economics particularly attractive for onsite hydrogen generation from electrolysis. By incorporating onboard hydrogen generation via Acta's electrolysers SEFCA intends to reduce the service costs of its fuel cell back-up power systems, in particular for telecom base stations.
SEFCA is Australia's leading specialist in the design, supply and installation of fuel cell systems for back-up power and prime power applications, and has installed fuel cell back-up power systems with customers including Australia's major telecommunications utility company. SEFCA's supply partnerships include some of the world's leading fuel cell system companies.
Paolo Bert, CEO of Acta said, "Our electrolyser products can be instrumental in reducing the operating costs of fuel cell back-up power systems and we are very pleased to be partnering with SEFCA to address the Australian telecommunications sector and other markets."
Martin Burns, Director of SEFCA said, "Sefca has operated successfully in Australia for over five years and focuses on providing innovative hydrogen based power solutions to match the unique needs of industry and Government in Australia. Through our innovative system integration and solutions, Sefca is the leading Fuel Cell systems provider in Australia. Sefca's greatest challenge has been the cost and availability of Hydrogen in Australia. Due to Australia's geographic diversity and small regional populations, delivering reliable power to regional and remote areas is a major challenge.
Sefca recognises the Acta solution as a major breakthrough for us and our customers. It is the quantum improvement "disruptive" technological solution that we have been searching for. Uniquely, it is a solution that offers Sefca the ability to produce high pressure hydrogen on site, is designed to work with the variable power outputs of PV cells, and all at a relatively low cost. Sefca has been monitoring the Fuel Cell and Electrolyser markets closely in search of a product that can solve these issues and we are incredibly excited to distribute Acta Electrolyser. We see it as meeting our needs and providing the hydrogen breakthrough that the market in Australia has been waiting for."

About Acta S.p.A.
Acta S.p.A. is a developer and manufacturer of a range of clean energy products. Its product line includes market-leading compact hydrogen generators (electrolysers) which produce pure, dry and compressed hydrogen in a way that is easy-to-use and completely safe, and the Company is committed to integrating its award-winning electrolysers with renewable energy sources.
Acta's cost-competitive electrolysers are based on its proprietary, inexpensive environmental catalyst and hydrogen conversion technologies. These products help overcome the barriers to the adoption of fuel cells, most notably the lack of a local hydrogen infrastructure. They are also applicable in non-fuel cell hydrogen and oxygen applications, including oxy-hydrogen gas welding systems, where the Company is generating significant commercial interest.
Acta's low-cost hydrogen generators represent a unique breakthrough in electrolyser technology. They can operate using mains power or intermittent renewable energy, and produce clean, dry hydrogen already at pressure for use in fuel cell and other applications. This unique combination of features avoids the system complexity and energy cost of further cleaning, drying and compression of the hydrogen, resulting in a simple, compact, low-cost and highly efficient system that is ideally suited for energy conversion and storage applications. In such applications, which include battery replacement and renewable energy storage, low cost and high efficiency are critical to commercial viability, while hydrogen compression is essential for the energy density of the system. No other water electrolyser currently on the market offers this combination of benefits.
Acta is focusing on delivering its products to markets with high volume demand for high-value environmental solutions (transport, back-up power, energy and leisure). It is accelerating the commercialisation of its products via partnerships with original equipment manufacturers (OEMs), distributors, and agents in these sectors, and intends to drive down production costs at high volume via contract manufacturing.
Acta S.p.A. is based near Pisa, Italy, and was admitted to trading on AIM in October 2005.
