Manus Island Drilling Results
TPJ, the AIM-listed gold exploration company focused on South East Asia, has received assay results for holes KD0005 and KD0006 drilled at the Kisi-Soon Poet epithermal gold-silver system on Manus Island, Papua New Guinea. These holes complete an initial 6 hole exploratory diamond drilling programme totaling 1,597 metres conducted by TPJ's joint venture partner Newcrest PNG Exploration Limited, a subsidiary of Newcrest Mining Limited (ASX:NCM), the world's third largest gold company. The Company holds a 15.2% fundable participating interest in the Joint Venture project going forward.
The Kisi-Soon Poet prospects occur within a broad area approximately 4km long by up to 1km wide of anomalous gold and silver values in epithermal-type mineralization defined by surface soil and rock-chip sampling. Within this area two elongate zones have been identified - a southern narrow zone about 1.5km long and less than 100m wide where previous trenching and sampling by Highlands Gold and TPJ returned gold values of 10m @ 5.8g/t gold and 16m @ 40g/t gold respectively; and a coherent northern zone that is a minimum of 1.8km long and up to 200m wide defined by surface rock-chip and rock-float sampling by Newcrest, with better assays ranging between 5g/t and 25g/t gold.
Although epithermal-type quartz and carbonate veining have been identified in core, the first-pass exploratory drilling to date has not intersected economic grade mineralization, nor yet explained the source of the surface high gold values. The best intersection in Hole KD0005, which was drilled to a depth of 236m, was 4m of 0.34g/t gold and 9.4g/t silver from 152m down hole; and the best intersection in Hole KDD0006, drilled to a depth of 298m, was 4m of 0.26g/t gold and 0.3g/t silver from 72m down hole. TPJ's press release of 18 October 2012 previously reported an intersection of 5.8m of 1.2g/t gold and 12g/t silver in Hole KD0001 from 180m down hole.
A full review of results is underway to better determine vectors for future work.
The Company expects to receive the results from the three initial holes drilled at the second target at Manus Island under the TPJ-Newcrest JV, the Arie copper-porphyry prospect, before the end of this calendar year.
