Trevor Matthews joins as CEO and Charles Bellringer appointed interim CFO
Friends Provident plc announces that Trevor Matthews joins the company today as chief executive officer (CEO).
Friends Provident also announces that Charles Bellringer will be appointed to the Board of Friends Provident on 4 August as interim chief financial officer (CFO). He has over 30 years experience in finance including senior roles at Legal & General, GE Capital, Metropolitan Life and Equitable Life. He joined Equitable in May 2001 after the new Chairman was appointed and led the financial reconstruction project. His role at Friends Provident is full time and he is expected to be at Friends Provident until a permanent CFO is appointed. A specialist search agency has been appointed for this purpose.
Friends Provident is in the process of implementing its revised strategy that was announced on 31 January and will be presenting its half year results on Thursday 7 August.

Trevor Matthews Biography
Trevor Matthews joins from Standard Life Assurance Limited where he was Chief Executive from 2004 to July 2008. He was previously President and Chief Executive Officer of Manulife Japan from 2001 to 2004 and Executive Vice President of Canadian Operations and Chairman of Manulife Bank from 1998 to 2001. Prior to this, Trevor was General Manager of Personal Finance Services for National Australia Bank between 1996 to 1998 and Managing Director of Legal and General Assurance Holdings Australia Limited between 1989 and 1996.
Trevor was appointed President of the Chartered Insurance Institute on 16 July 2008 (he has been Deputy President from 2007). In 1997 he was President of the Institute of Actuaries of Australia (Centenary Year).
Charles Bellringer Biography:
Charles Bellringer joins from AlixPartners Ltd where he has been a Director since 2004. He will remain employed by AlixPartners Ltd during his time as interim CFO at Friends Provident. He was previously Managing Director of The Ascent Partnership from 2003 to 2004. Prior to this, Charles was Chief Finance and Investment Officer at Equitable Life Assurance Society from 2001 to 2002 and Chief Finance and Administration Officer at Best International Group1999 to 2000. He has also held senior finance roles at Metropolitan Life , 1992 to 1995, General Electric Corp from 1989 to 1992 and Legal & General 1988 to 1989.
