Scotland's only insulation manufacturing plant shows Scottish Housing Minister
the means to save energy in our homes
Superglass CEO Alex McLeod today welcomed Alex Neil, Minister for Housing and Communities MSP to its Stirling plant as he launched the second phase of the Scottish Government's Home Insulation Scheme ("HIS") which pledges to contact another 200,000 households in a bid to insulate more homes across Scotland.
MSP Alex Neil was shown how the plant, Scotland's only independent manufacturer of glass mineral fibre insulation products, which uses 100% bottle glass in its manufacturing process recycling 35,000 tonnes per annum in the manufacture of glass wool insulation for our homes. During the visit, Alex Neil announced that 19 further Scottish regions would be added to the scheme which will help Scottish householders conserve energy, reduce fuel bills and save money.
Speaking at the launch, Minister for Housing and Communities Alex Neil MSP said, "It's fantastic to see Scottish manufacturers like Superglass using innovative methods to produce eco-friendly insulation materials.
"This is an excellent example of Scotland's green industry stimulating our economy, saving households cash and driving down carbon emissions."
Alex McLeod, Chief Executive Officer of Superglass, said: "I am delighted that the Scottish Government is supporting home insulation as the most cost-effective method of achieving energy efficiency targets in Scotland.
"As the sole manufacturer of insulation in Scotland we hope to see substantial benefit from the scheme. Superglass is well positioned to utiliseavailable capacity to support the demand the scheme creates, which, together with other wider initiatives, should further secure additional employment in our business."
