Launch of App Security Scanning Service
appScatter Group plc (AIM: APPS), the scalable business-to-business ('B2B') Software as a Service ('SaaS') platform that allows users to distribute and manage their apps on multiple app stores around the world, is pleased to announce the launch of the appScatter app security scanning service (the "Scanning Service").
The Scanning Service can be used, in conjunction with the wider appScatter platform, by appScatter users to identify and highlight areas of potential vulnerability in their app portfolios (such as security of underlying app users' personal data) and enabling appScatter users to address any potential security issues as part of app maintenance programme.
The Scanning Service application is part of the Company's planned wider platform development programme and is being made available to existing and new customers for an additional subscription fee.
GDPR
A key feature of the new Scanning Service is that it could be used by appScatter customers as part of their programme to assess and ensure their compliance with certain key aspects of the EU General Data Protection Regulation (the "GDPR"), which comes into force on 25 May 2018.
The GDPR requires all organisations operating in the EU to protect the personal data and privacy of European citizens and violation of the requirements of the GDPR can have severe financial consequences for organisations- with fines capable of being levied for severe data breaches of up to €20 million or four percent of global revenues.
From 25 May 2018, organisations operating in the EU are required to demonstrate that they have operational and technical procedures in place to ensure ongoing compliance with the GDPR. The appScatter Scanning Service will assist with this, at a relatively low cost, by allowing users of the Scanning Service to scan certain areas of app GDPR compliance and to identify any related potential areas of concern.
Philip Marcella, Founder and Chief Executive Officer of appScatter, said:
"Data security is as important as ever. The new appScatter app security scanning service will provide users with critical security compliance information and has the ability to be a material standalone revenue stream for the Company. Breach of security leading to the accidental or unlawful destruction, loss, alteration, unauthorised disclosure of, or access to, personal data transmitted, stored or otherwise processed will lead to a breach of the GDPR.
"Hackers are constantly improving their ability to find loopholes in the common frameworks and appScatter can assist by allowing the security of the systems to be analysed, looking at areas such as weaknesses in stack security to ensure they are not outdated and looking at all frameworks and systems are up-to-date."
