UBC Media Group PLC27 October 2005 27 October 2005 UBC reports latest listening figures UBC Media Group plc (UBC), the digital radio broadcaster and programme producer,is pleased to report audience gains for the 'Classic Gold Digital' (CGDL)network of radio stations in the latest official RAJAR audience figurespublished today. In the latest RAJAR report (Q3, 2005) CGDL increased its total of analogue anddigital listening hours across the UK by 14% to 7,704,000 (Q2, 2005: 6,759,000),while its weekly reach grew by 2.6% to 782,000 (Q2, 2005: 762,000). Despite a long-term trend of declining listening on AM, in the current quarterlistening to CGDL's analogue services showed a 13% increase in total hours to6,050,000 (Q2, 2005: 5,334,000). The quarter also saw a growth in reach of 4.3%to 552,000 (Q2, 2005: 529,000) and an increase in average listening hours from10.1 hours to 11.0 hours per week. Total hours listened to CGDL in areas where the station is only available ondigital platforms increased by 16% to 1,654,000 (Q2, 2005: 1,425,000). In the latest RAJAR report, Oneword Radio, in which UBC holds a 49% interest,increased its total hours by 60% to 519,000, compared to the same period lastyear (Q3 2004: 325,000). Year-on-year, Oneword Radio's weekly reach increased by12% (Q3 2005: 129,000. Q3 2004: 115,000). Commenting on the RAJAR figures, Simon Cole, CEO of UBC said: "The latest research from the Digital Radio Development Bureau (DRDB), publishedin September 2005, predicts further substantial growth in digital listening inthe next five years, with a projection of 20 million DAB digital radio unitssold in the UK by 2009 and household penetration in excess of 40%. "Today's RAJAR results underscore UBC's belief that the rapid consumer uptake ofdigital radio would deliver audience growth to both its station brands.
