Kier in line-up for major PFI Police scheme

Justice Support Services (JSS) a consortium comprising Kier Group plc, the Bank of Scotland Corporate and Reliance Secure Task Management Ltd, has been appointed preferred bidder by Norfolk and Suffolk Police Authorities for the Two Counties Police Investigation Centres Project. This is a Private Finance Initiative (PFI) project to build and run six new police investigation facilities across both counties for 30 years.

Representing one of the largest PFI projects within the police sector, it has the full backing of the Home Office and is scheduled for completion by summer 2010. Centres are currently planned for Wymondham, Aylsham, Great Yarmouth, Ipswich, Bury St Edmunds and King's Lynn. Kier Project Investment is representing Kier Group's interests and Kier Regional will construct the centres under a £60m construction contract. Reliance will provide the facilities management services.

Kier Group chief executive John Dodds commented: "JSS is delighted to have been chosen by Norfolk and Suffolk Police Authorities as their preferred partner in the delivery of these new police investigation centres. We have come through a rigorous appraisal by the Authorities' Project Team and look forward to working with them over the next months and years in delivering state-of-the-art facilities for Norfolk and Suffolk Constabularies."
