Kabwe Resource and Operations Update
Berkeley Mineral Resources, the tailings processing company, announces that verification and assessment work is continuing on its resources at the former Kabwe mine site in Zambia. This is in connection with the Pre-feasibility Study being completed on all the resources at the project, Washplant, Leachplant and Slags.
Drilling
Re-drilling of the Slag sections of the stockpiles (see Dumps 57, 21 and 22 on the aerial plan on the BMR website at http://www.bmrplc/projects/resources) to provide data for the material contained in the slag stockpiles has commenced today. The re-drilling is being carried out with percussion drills necessary to provide assayable samples rather than the auger drills previously employed.
Washplant Resources
Re-interpretation of the resources so far reported on has concluded that there is an uplift in the quantity of JORC-compliant Washplant tailings resources within the total resources at Kabwe. The revised JORC Statement below is a result of further assessment of the quantity and grades of the Washplant tailings resources:
Resource Classification | Volume (m3) | Dry Bulk Density (t/m3) | Average Moisture Content | Pb (%) | Zn (%) | Wet Tonnage | Dry Tonnage |
Measured | 304,771 | 1.92 | 16.61% | 7.21 | 10.66 | 668,709 | 573,458 |
Total | 304,771 | 1.92 | 16.61% | 7.21 | 10.66 | 668,709 | 573,458 |
The Competent Person with the overall responsibility for the Mineral Resource estimation and compilation of this report is Mr. D R Young (BSc. Hons., Geology), who is a Competent Person as defined by the JORC Code (2004), being registered as a Professional Natural Scientist with the South African Council for Natural Scientific Professions (SACNASP), with more than 5 years experience relevant to Mineral Resource estimation.
Leachplant Resources
Drilling of the remainder of the tailings not reported on in the announcement of 28 July 2011 regarding the Leachplant central and southern sections is proceeding.
Assaying
All samples extracted by drilling are being sent to the SGS assaying centre in South Africa for verification. The final resource statement will thereafter be compiled by The Mineral Corporation and the Pre-Feasibility Study on the beneficiation plant will be concluded by Metanza.
