IPTV Service Roll Out Simplified and Video Quality of Experience Assured with Spirent Tech-X Plus(TM)

23rd Oct 2007 13:30

Spirent Communications plc (LSE:SPT), a global provider ofperformance analysis and service management solutions, today announcedthe ability to conduct IP video quality testing on its Tech-X Plus, the market leading hand-held field tester for Triple Play networks andservices. With this new feature, Spirent enables field technicians toverify IPTV subscribers' Quality of Experience (QoE) by measuring boththe transport network and video content. This provides a more thoroughservice quality measurement and an accurate indication of thesubscribers' viewing experience. £ "As service providers roll out IPTV globally, they are undertremendous pressure to get the quality of service and viewingexperience right from the first time the service is turned-up," saidJeff Heynen, directing analyst, Broadband and IPTV at InfoneticsResearch. "Today, many field technicians watch the video stream on thesubscriber's TV and make a subjective decision on the quality. This isnot only time consuming, but it also does not scale as serviceproviders begin deploying IPTV to million of homes." £ Spirent Tech-X Plus is the industry's finest standardized fieldtester to measure Video Mean Opinion Scores (MOS) to validate qualityof service objectively. Furthermore, by testing the transport networkalong with the video content, field technicians can isolate quicklyand easily if service issues are transport or video stream related. £ "Service providers that offer traditional voice and IP based dataservices need a field tester that enables them to simplify theinstallation of residential IP Video," said Sean Yarborough, directorof marketing, Field Test Services at Spirent Communications. "Withthis latest introduction on Tech-X Plus, Spirent allows serviceproviders to roll out triple play services that maintain and exceedsubscribers' QoE expectations." £ Unlike existing industry solutions that only supporttransport-based measurements such as jitter, delay, and loss, SpirentTech-X Plus goes beyond standard transport-based measurements andextends service visibility by analyzing actual video content such asI, B, and P frames. Measuring only transport-based measurements doesnot provide a "full picture" of the subscriber's viewing experience. £ Spirent Tech-X solution enables service providers to quickly andconfidently deploy and maintain xDSL, FTTx, and IP-based services. Itsautomated expert diagnostics accelerate the field troubleshootingprocess by analyzing and correlating various test results to identifyfaults and prioritize those with the greatest impact on service. Byusing this solution, service providers experience the benefits ofreduced repeat rates for network installation and repair, and shorterjob completion times for Triple Play network work orders. £ About Spirent Communications plc £ Spirent Communications (www.spirentcom.com) is a global providerof integrated performance analysis and service assurance systems thatenable the development and deployment of next-generation networkingtechnology such as Internet telephony, broadband services, 3Gwireless, global navigation satellite systems, and network securityequipment.
