British Smaller Companies VCT PLC24 January 2008 BRITISH SMALLER COMPANIES VCT PLC ("the Company") INTERIM MANAGEMENT STATEMENT For the quarter ended 31 December 2007 British Smaller Companies VCT plc presents its interim management statement forthe quarter ended 31 December 2007. This is the Company's second interimmanagement statement for the financial year ending 31 March 2008. The unaudited net asset value per Ordinary share as at 31 December 2007 was100.74 pence per share. This compares to 100.70 pence per share at 30 September2007 after taking into account the dividend of 2 pence per share that was paidon 16 November 2007. Against a background of volatile markets the resultant total return at 31December 2007 rose to 140.74 pence per share compared to 136.3 pence per shareat 31 March 2007. The Company has continued to manage it's portfolio actively, having completed 7investments at a total cost of £3.8 million in the eight months since thefundraising closed on 30 April 2007. The quarter to 31 December 2007 saw the Company realise two of its investmentson the same day, 19 October 2007. These were the sale of Cozart plc to Concatenoplc realising £2.24 million (compared to a cost of £0.45 million) and thedisposal of RMF Limited realising £0.24 million (compared to a cost of £0.09million). The number of Ordinary shares in issue at 31 December 2007 was 25,935,718.During the three months ended 31 December 2007 40,000 shares were re-purchasedand held in Treasury by the Company at a price of 91.0 pence per share. In totalat 31 December 2007 the Company held 488,445 shares in Treasury. In addition, there havebeen expressions of interest in other investments which may result in attractiveoffers. New investment opportunities have continued to be presented at anencouraging rate which has resulted in £1.1 million of new investments in thelast quarter. On 4 January 2008 the Company issued a prospectus seeking to raise up to £5.3million to continue to take advantage of the level of investment opportunitiespresented. This is subject to the approval of shareholders at an EGM to be heldon 6 February 2008.
