ICAP Broking Volumes Reach Record Levels as Flight to Quality Continues

ICAP plc (IAP.L), the world's premier interdealer broker,announced that daily electronic broking volumes reached record levelslast week as volatility in global financial markets continued togather pace. £ ICAP's electronic broking platforms EBS and BrokerTec traded arecord $1.085 trillion ($1,085 billion) on Thursday 26 July. This wasfollowed by $1.032 trillion on Friday 27 July. £ Spot FX on ICAP's electronic broking platform EBS reached a recordlevel of USD $306.8 billion on Friday, smashing the previous record of$269.9 billion from March 2007. Average daily volume on EBS in thepast week also exceeded the previous record of $224 billion to reach$244.3 billion. £ U.S. Treasury products on BrokerTec also saw their second heaviesttrading day on Thursday with a total of $303 billion. £ The active conditions in global equity markets have been mirroredby highly volatile over the counter wholesale markets in foreignexchange and fixed income as the flight to quality continues. This isturn has led to a significant increase in ICAP's electronic brokingvolumes on EBS and BrokerTec. Strong broking volumes were also seen inICAP's voice-broked markets.
