Hurricane FlorenceCastle Hayne plant temporary shut down

Elementis plc (“Elementis” or “the Company”) today confirms that production at its Chromium facility in Castle Hayne, North Carolina has been disrupted as a result of the recent Hurricane Florence.

Whilst the facility has not sustained any significant structural damage, flooding around the plant has stopped production. Elementis has focused its efforts on ensuring the safety of its 113 employees in Castle Hayne and restarting operations in a safe manner as soon as possible.

Subject to local conditions, which it continues to monitor, Elementis estimates the plant should return to production during October 2018 and the impact on 2018 Group earnings is anticipated, at this time, to be modest. Trading across the rest of the Group continues to be in line with expectations.

Paul Waterman, CEO of Elementis, said:

“Our team at Castle Hayne have led a first class response to the extreme conditions resulting from Hurricane Florence. The shutdown of the facility was well managed and we anticipate production to restart as conditions in the surrounding area return to normal over the coming weeks. Most importantly all of our employees are accounted for and I would like to thank them for their diligent preparation and hard work during this period.”
