Allied Irish Banks PLC21 February 2006 For Immediate Release - 21 February 2006 Notification of Major Interest in Shares Allied Irish Banks, p.l.c. ("AIB") received notification on 20 February 2006from Fidelity International of the following interests in AIB Shares, held by(i) FMR Corp. and its direct and indirect subsidiaries, and (ii) FidelityInternational Limited, and its direct and indirect subsidiaries, both beingnon-beneficial holders. The interests notified, which have been acquired solelyfor investment purposes, amount to 43,688,479 shares in aggregate, and represent4.99% of AIB's issued shares (which, as of today's date, number 874,927,973shares, exclusive of 43,507,597 Treasury Shares held).
