Cairn Energy PLC22 January 2007 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE 22 January 2007 Cairn Energy PLC ("Cairn") Notification of Shareholding - Companies Act 1985 ss.198-202 (as amended) On 19 January 2007, Cairn was notified by FMR Corp. and its direct and indirect subsidiaries and by Fidelity International Limited and its direct and indirect subsidiaries, both being non-beneficial holders, that they had an interest in 4,703,953 ordinary shares of 10 pence each in Cairn, representing 2.93% of Cairn's current issued ordinary share capital.
