Gemfields Plc ("Gemfields" or "the Company", Ticker "GEM") received notification on 1 September 2011 from BlackRock Inc ("BlackRock") that on 30 August 2011 Blackrock purchased 100,000 the Company's ordinary 1p shares.

Following this transaction BlackRock has a notifiable interest in 16,216,858 of the Company's ordinary 1p shares, amounting to approximately 5.00% of the Company's issued share capital.
