Sanctuary Group PLC17 March 2006 The Sanctuary Group plc17 March 2006 Notification of Major interests in shares The Sanctuary Group plc ('the Company') 17 March 2006 The Company was notified on 16 March 2006 that as at the close of business on 14 March 2006 The Goldman Sachs Group, Inc., ("GS Inc") was interested, by attribution only, in a total of 81,929,964 shares which represents 22.07% of the issued share capital of The Sanctuary Group plc. Of these 81,929,964 shares: Interest in 50,616,709 shares arose from a beneficial interest held by Goldman Sachs International, a wholly owned indirect subsidiary of GS Inc. Interest in 15,720,000 shares arose from an interest held by Goldman, Sachs & Co, a wholly owned direct subsidiary of GS Inc. Interest in 15,593,255 shares arose from the interest held by subsidiaries of GS Inc acting as discretionary managers. Ends.
