Sanctuary Group PLC08 November 2006 THE SANCTUARY GROUP PLC (the 'Company') NOTIFIABLE INTEREST The Company was informed on 7 November 2006 by The Goldman Sachs Group, Incthat, as at close of business on 3 November 2006, The Goldman Sachs Group, Inc("GS Inc.") is interested, by attribution only, in 33,625,888 ordinary sharesof 2 pence each in the Company ('Ordinary Shares'), representing approximately15.13 per cent. of the issued share capital of the Company. Of these 33,625,888 Ordinary Shares: • The interest in 23,844,419 Ordinary Shares arose from a beneficial interest held by Goldman Sachs International, a wholly-owned indirect subsidiary of GS Inc. These shares are, or will be, registered at CREST in account CREPTEMP. This represents 10.73 per cent. of the total issued share capital of the Company. • The interest in 357,556 Ordinary Shares arose from an interest held by Goldman, Sachs & Co. ("GS&Co."), a wholly-owned direct subsidiary of GS Inc., acting as custodian for its customers. These shares are, or will be, registered in the name of Goldman Sachs Securities (Nominees), Limited. This represents 0.16 per cent. of the total issued share capital of the Company. • The interest in 9,423,913 Ordinary Shares arose from the interest held by subsidiaries of GS Inc. acting as discretionary managers. GS Inc. believe some of these shares, are, or will be, registered in the name of GSSN.
