Cairn Energy PLC21 March 2006 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE 21 March 2006 Cairn Energy PLC ("Cairn") Notification of Shareholding - Companies Act 1985 ss.198-202 (as amended) On 21 March 2006, Cairn was notified by FMR Corp. and its direct and indirect subsidiaries and by Fidelity International Limited and its direct and indirect subsidiaries, both being non-beneficial holders, that they had an interest in 18,768,305 ordinary shares of 10 pence each in Cairn, representing 11.74% of Cairn's current issued ordinary share capital.
