Sanctuary Group PLC17 November 2006 The Sanctuary Group PLC17 November 2006 THE SANCTUARY GROUP PLC (the 'Company') NOTIFIABLE INTEREST The Company was informed on 16 November 2006 by The Goldman Sachs Group, Incthat, as at close of business on 14 November 2006, The Goldman Sachs Group,Inc ("GS Inc.") is interested, by attribution only, in 33,279,588 ordinary shares of 2 pence each in the Company ('Ordinary Shares'), representingapproximately 14.98 per cent. of the issued share capital of the Company. Of these 33,279,588 Ordinary Shares: • The interest in 23,498,119 Ordinary Shares arose from a beneficial interestheld by Goldman Sachs International, a wholly-owned indirect subsidiary of GSInc. These shares are, or will be, registered at CREST in account CREPTEMP. Thisrepresents 10.58 per cent. of the total issued share capital of the Company. • The interest in 357,556 Ordinary Shares arose from an interest held byGoldman, Sachs & Co. ("GS&Co."), a wholly-owned direct subsidiary of GS Inc.,acting as custodian for its customers. These shares are, or will be, registeredin the name of Goldman Sachs Securities (Nominees), Limited. This represents0.16 per cent. of the total issued share capital of the Company. • The interest in 9,423,913 Ordinary Shares arose from the interest held bysubsidiaries of GS Inc. acting as discretionary managers.
