Cairn Energy PLC25 September 2006 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE 25 September 2006 Cairn Energy PLC ("Cairn") Notification of Shareholding - Companies Act 1985 ss.198-202 (as amended) On 22 September 2006, Cairn was notified by FMR Corp. and its direct andindirect subsidiaries and by Fidelity International Limited and its direct andindirect subsidiaries, both being non-beneficial holders, that they had an interest in 9,530,258 ordinary shares of 10 pence each in Cairn, representing5.95% of Cairn's current issued ordinary share capital.
