Gemfields Plc ("Gemfields" or "the Company", Ticker "GEM") received notification on 12 March 2012 from Standard Life Investments Ltd ("Standard Life") that on 09 March Standard Life bought 500,000 the Company's ordinary 1p shares.

Following this transaction Standard Life has a notifiable interest in 13,320,913 of the Company's ordinary 1p shares, amounting to approximately 4.103% of the Company's issued share capital.
