Grant of European Patent

1st Oct 2007 08:27

Ceramic Fuel Cells Limited01 October 2007 1 October 2007 Ceramic Fuel Cells Limited Granted another European Patent for Fuel Cell Design Ceramic Fuel Cells Limited ("CFCL"), a leading developer of solid oxide fuelcells (SOFC) for micro-combined heat and power units (m-CHP), has been grantedanother European patent for its innovative fuel cell designs. The patent is for a fuel cell assembly design, combining ceramic fuel cells andmetal interconnect plates. The design allows the cells to 'float' between themetal plates. This approach is designed to reduce the stresses on the fuelcells, thereby improving the performance and increasing the lifetime of the fuelcell stack. Lowering the stresses on the fuel cells also improves the ability ofthe fuel cell stack to be thermally cycled (turned on and off many times). The patent, already granted in Australia, New Zealand and the USA, has now alsobeen granted in the important markets of UK, Germany, France and Italy, and anapplication is pending in Japan. Ceramic Fuel Cells, which won the Industry Innovation Design award at the recentEAST awards, has developed a broad range of intellectual property, includingmore than 50 patents granted in international markets for 29 inventions.
