Further Research Success

Ultrasis, the leading provider of cognitive behavioural therapy for stress and mild to moderate depression and anxiety delivered by computer, is pleased to announce that Paula R. Sherwood, RN, PhD, CNRN, FAAN and Heidi S. Donovan, RN, PhD, along with their research team from the University of Pittsburgh School of Nursing have been awarded a National Institutes of Health research grant of C.$3,000,000.

The grant is titled "SmartCare: Innovations in caregiving interventions." The trial will look specifically at providing web and telephone based interventions to family caregivers of persons with a brain tumor and will take place over a five year period.

Drs. Sherwood and Donovan said "We are thrilled to be able to implement the well-established Beating the Blues programme as a critical component of this research study. We believe the delivery method and content will meet the needs of an extremely vulnerable population."

John Smith, Executive Director at Ultrasis, said "This innovative research will look at the benefits of providing Beating the Blues US and other interventions to caregivers with a view to identifying how best to help them cope with the stress of providing care to their loved ones. We are delighted to be working with Drs. Sherwood and Donovan and their team at University of Pittsburgh School of Nursing."

He added, "This is the third significant grant that has been awarded to trials involving Beating the Blues and further demonstrates the high level of interest that computer delivered health care is receiving in the US"

"Although Ultrasis will not benefit financially from this research grant, we are confident that the growing reputation of "Beating the Blues US" as a leading computerised cognitive behavioural therapy solution for the treatment of stress and depression will be significantly enhanced amongst mental health care providers in the US."
