Tanzanite One Limited31 March 2008 31 March 2008 Flooding in the Merelani mining area The Merelani area in northern Tanzania where Tanzanite One operates itstanzanite mine was the subject of very heavy rains on Friday, 28th March. As aresult of these rains, flash flooding penetrated several mine shafts belongingto adjacent small mines on block B. No employees of Tanzanite One have been injured or trapped in these floods. Indications to date are that six artisanal miners from neighbouring mines havebeen confirmed dead with a further unconfirmed number reported missing. Indirectflood water entry was made into TanzaniteOne's Bravo shaft below level 17 due toaccess through neighbours' illegal holings into the shaft. No impact on production is expected. Tanzanite One is able to continueproduction at its other three production shafts, namely CT shaft, Main shaft andDelta shaft. In conjunction with Barrick Africa, Tanzanite One Mining is spearheading therescue effort and has devoted its Bravo shaft to provide access into theneighbouring block mine workngs.
