First Shipment to China

Carnegie Minerals plc27 September 2006 27 September 2006 Carnegie Minerals Plc ("Carnegie" or the "Group") First Shipment to China Carnegie, the Mineral Sands resources company with production interests in TheGambia and an exploration permit in adjoining Senegal is pleased to announce ithas successfully started mining its Sanyang resource, ahead of the schedule asset out in the Admission Document dated 8th August 2006. Carnegie is also pleased to announce it has shipped its first concentrates toChina through its off take partner Astron from its deposits in The Gambia. Thefirst preliminary shipment of approximately 1,320 tonnes of concentrate(containing 410 tonnes of zircon / rutile non mag concentrate) has been achievedahead of schedule. Astron, Carnegie's off take partner is an ASX-listed companyand one of the largest independent purchasers and processors of zircon productsin China. Astron supplies approximately 25% of the Chinese zircon market and isa market leader in China for zircon and advanced zirconium chemicals. The offtake agreement with Astron is for the economic life of the Gambian Licence. There is currently strong international demand for zircon, particularly toChina. In parallel, Carnegie is also pleased to advise that it has completed the onsite construction of the main bucket ladder dredge that will allow theescalation of mining at the Sanyang deposit.
