("Mwana" or the "Company")

First Shipment of Concentrate from Refurbished Trojan Nickel Mine

Mwana is pleased to announce that the first shipment of nickel concentrate from Bindura Nickel Corporation's ("BNC") Trojan Nickel mine in Zimbabwe was dispatched on the 15th of April 2013. The timing of the shipment is in line with previous guidance given by the Company.

Following the refurbishment of the surface milling, flotation, tailings and concentrate handling facilities, hot commissioning has been successfully completed and the first shipment of nickel concentrate was trucked from the Trojan mine to Durban. The shipment takes place under the terms of the previously announced offtake agreement between Glencore and BNC whereby Glencore will purchase all of the concentrate produced at the Trojan mine at a price linked to the LME settlement price.

The processing plant is now producing concentrate of saleable quantity and quality and the remainder of the commissioning activities during the year will focus on increasing throughput and improving recoveries.

This first shipment of concentrate from the Trojan mine marks a major milestone in the restoration of the Company's nickel assets, following a four year period of care and maintenance.

Kalaa Mpinga, Chief Executive Officer of Mwana, commented:

"Having successfully completed the commissioning process at Trojan we are very happy to be announcing the dispatch of first nickel concentrate. This marks a major milestone in our strategy to bring our nickel assets out of care and maintenance and back into production. I would like to express my thanks and appreciation to the BNC staff, and to all those who have supported Mwana and BNC, for their contribution to this achievement."

About Mwana Africa PLC

Mwana Africa PLC is a pan-African, multi-commodity mining and development company. Mwana's principal operations and exploration activities cover gold, nickel, copper and diamonds in Zimbabwe, the DRC and South Africa.

The restart of operations at The Trojan Nickel Mine (owned by Mwana's Zimbabwe subsidiary Bindura Nickel Corporation ("BNC")) follows four years during which all of the BNC assets were on care and maintenance. In September 2012, Bindura Nickel Corporation carried out a restructuring and recapitalisation involving US$23m being invested into BNC which has allowed it to restart the Trojan mine. First sale of concentrate to Glencore took place in April 2013.

Mwana's Freda Rebecca gold mine in Zimbabwe, having restarted operations in 2009, produced 47,770 ozs of gold in the 12 months to March 2012. Record quarterly gold production of 18,350 ozs was achieved in the third quarter of 2012.

In February 2013, Mwana announced that the gold mineral resource at its Zani Kodo project in Democratic Republic of Congo had increased to 2.6 million ounces.

In August 2012, Mwana announced it had entered into a Cooperation and Development Agreement with Zhejiang Hailiang Company Limited to jointly explore its copper license areas in the Katanga Province of the DRC.
