Mwana Africa PLC24 April 2008 Mwana Africa To Appoint Peter Sydney-Smith as Finance Director London, 24 April 2008 - The Board of Mwana Africa plc ("The Company"), thepan-African resource company is delighted to announce that with effect from 1June 2008, Peter Sydney-Smith will be appointed Finance Director, succeeding thelate David Fish, a Mwana founder and former Finance Director. Mr Sydney-Smith has extensive experience in the mining and metals sector,emerging markets and Africa, and previously held the position of FinanceDirector with African mining company Nikanor. He acted as finance director for anumber of companies, including Vedanta Resources plc, BPB plc, the internationalbuilding materials group and British Gypsum Ltd. Mr Sydney-Smith is a charteredaccountant and a member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of England andWales. Commenting on the announcement, Kalaa Mpinga, Chief Executive Officer of MwanaAfrica, said: "We are delighted to be able to welcome Peter Sydney-Smith to theMwana team and to be securing the services of such an experienced FinanceDirector for this key position.
