Extension to Barking Power

Scottish & Southern Energy PLC20 December 2007 SCOTTISH AND SOUTHERN ENERGY PLC EXTENSION TO BARKING POWER Ministers have given consent to Barking Power Ltd, in which Scottish andSouthern Energy plc ("SSE") has a 30.4% stake, to construct an extension of itsexisting Combined Cycle Gas Turbine power station at Dagenham. The extensionwill allow for the development of a further 470MW of capacity, in addition tothe existing 1,000MW. This would effectively add over 140MW to the portfolio ofelectricity generation assets owned by SSE. The consent includes requirements that carbon capture plant can be'retro-fitted' to the extension should that be necessary in the future and thatthe necessary plant and pipeworks are installed to ensure that the station cansupply heat in the future, if the opportunity arises.
