Enova's Hybrid Drive Systems

9th Feb 2006 07:02

Enova Systems, Inc.09 February 2006 Enova's Hybrid Drive Systems Helping Power Ford Fuel Cell Vehicles and WrightbusTransit Buses TORRANCE, CA, February 9, 2006 - Enova Systems, (OTCBB: ENOV and AIM: ENV andENVS), a leading developer and manufacturer of electric, hybrid and fuel celldigital power management systems, confirmed today that its components arecurrently being used in thirty (30) Ford Focus Hydrogen Fuel Cell Vehicles andsix (6) Wrightbus Electrocity hybrid transit buses. The Ford Focus is one of the industry's first hybridized fuel cell vehicleslooking to combine the improved range and performance of hybrid technology withthe overall benefits of a fuel cell. "We have had a long relationship with FordMotor Company, starting with the Th!nk City vehicle. It is great to see thatFord is continuing their pursuit and development of Alternate Fuel Vehicles"commented Enova's Vice President of Marketing Mike Staran. Enova's High VoltageEnergy Converter (HVEC) is a critical component of Ford's fuel cell powersystem, converting and regulating high voltage power to lower voltages for usein fuel cell systems. Enova's module transfers power between the fuel cell, thedrive system and the battery and assists in energy recovery during regenerativebraking. The source of propulsion power is therefore transparent to the driver, allowing him to concentrate on normal vehicle operation. The thirty (30)vehicles are scheduled to be evaluated throughout 2006 in the United States,Canada, and Germany. This includes vehicles now in use in British Columbia, theSacramento California Municipal District, Florida, and Michigan. In the United Kingdom, and as shown on a recent British Broadcasting Corporation(BBC) telecast, The Mayor of London, Ken Livingstone, announced the addition byTransport for London of six new environmentally friendly hybrid vehicles - thefirst ever such vehicles in London - to the London Buses fleet. Enova's 120kW Hybrid Drive System has been installed in six (6) WrightbusElectrocity vehicles that are now in service in London. The single deck buseshave been introduced on an experimental basis, and are expected to be evaluatedwhile performing a normal route. The buses will operate on London's 360 route, from the Elephant Castle to the Royal Albert Hall. The Electrocity incorporatesEnova's 120kW Series Hybrid drive system which is powered by Enova's 60kWGenset. As stated by Enova's Chairman, Anthony Rawlinson, "Enova's partnershipwith Wrightbus has shown that Hybrid Drive systems can be an effective businessstrategy and we certainly expect future fuel economy and emissions reductionswill help prove that this is truly an emerging market."
