ANNOUNCEMENT FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

SMITH & NEPHEW PLC

STERLING AMOUNT OF DIVIDEND

As announced on 05 August 2011, an interim dividend for 2011 of 6.60 US cents per ordinary share will be paid on 1 November 2011 to shareholders whose names appeared on the Register at the close of business on 14 October 2011. Those shareholders whose address on the Register is in the UK, and those who have validly elected to receive sterling dividends, will receive a dividend of 4.175 pence per share.
